HeArtwork: Teen Mental Health and the Summer Checklist
It’s the beginning of May, and the ending of a school year.
2021-2022 saw a return of some normalcy and routines that had been part of our pre-COVID lives. We have all been able to enjoy more time together, un-masked, in the safety of increasing immunities and vaccinations. This blessing has opened up opportunities that had been literally closed to us the last couple of years. It’s a great chance to appreciate things that we may have once took forgranted.
As Summer approaches, parents are given a great task with that opportunity. Our kids will be home more, with less structured time taking up their day. As routines shift from school schedules to summer, how will your teen be occupying themselves… and their minds? How can you use this extra time to ensure your teen is developing into a self-assured, self-reliant, and responsible young adult?
May is Teen Self Esteem Awareness month. One way we can help our teens with their mental and emotional lives is by giving them the opportunities to create their own unique experiences that will define their summer. This autonomy creates a sense of empowerment that is important in developing healthy, independent adults.
