HeArtwork Gallery The Sequel

The HeArtwork Gallery Sequel was a great success, and it was due to the beautiful pieces that each of the following artists contributed to the event. We wanted to let our readers experience their heArtwork also. We hope you enjoy!!

Piper Hicks is a local artist from Piggott, AR. She’s currently in her senior year of high school, and participates in many artistic endeavors, including the local art club. Piper says she creates art because it is something she enjoys and finds satisfaction in doing. She sees her skillsets growing as an artist with each piece she creates, and can look back on previous work to see her growth. She enjoys the challenges of art and finding new ways to create.

Allie is a senior in high school from the Bernie, MO area. She shared the following with A Lovely Pause about how heArtwork has helped her cope with challenges in her life:

My name is Allie Pulliam. I have been doing art my entire life. It has always been very close to my heart. However, recently I started noticing how much I truly rely on my art to get me through my daily life. In April of 2021, I wrecked my car and broke my back in two places. In addition to the physical pain, I struggled with the trauma that prevented me from simply sitting down at my desk to sketch. After a long time of healing, I was thrown into my personal world of imagination and creation. Art is not only a talent I posses, but now a tool to help me cope and appreciate this life I live.

Shalyn Lewis is a local Piggott, AR artist who graduated from high school last year. She has stated that she has seen many people not begin the process of making art because they feel like they don’t have the skills to do it. Shalyn said that she believes creating from a ‘judgement-free zone’ allows the artist to express themselves without fear of failure. This mindset helps the artist to grow their skills and learn to express themselves in new and interesting ways.

We want to thank all the artists that contributed to our second HeArtwork Gallery!! Each of these young artists have a bright and creative future in front of them, and we can’t wait to watch them grow into it!
