A Face Among the Masks

A Face Among the Masks

I knew the truth behind the masks.

The boldfaced lies told to my face.

"We will never hurt you.

We will keep you safe."

It was all around me.

At church, at school, at home.

I knew the truth we all denied,

did everyone?

Or did I suffer all alone?

I decided to be open,

to finally listen,

Instead of trying to lead

To surrender the control I never owned,

I was brought down upon my knees

To this presence I have known existed

I could feel it all around.

But I never could quite match it

With the masks that I had found.

As I slowly let my guard down,

& began to surrender all control.

He led my heart to you,

It set me free,

& my faith began to grow

You've taught me how to love

With humility and grace.

You were taught by Jesus

& now I finally see His face.

It's not about the masks

Or the emotions that we feel

It's all about the relationship,

& a love and faith that's real.

I now understand the purpose is

to look beyond the masks

Focus on the pain

Forget about the past.

Listen to understand

Serve, help, and heal.

Follow Jesus,

& shine a light that's real.

You put in the effort

to look beyond my disguise,

You saw me and heard me,

& watched the Phoenix rise.

You helped create me,

Mold me into His intended form.

We were meant to be together,

Our names written beside the other

Since before we were ever born.

Thank you for being a model

Of His everlasting grace.

I'll be by your side forever,

Until together we see His face.
