2020: Start the Year off with Trust
I have been looking forward to the new year this year more than usual. It’s a time for new beginnings, which fuels motivation to set new goals! I have started thinking of goals/resolutions more as promises to myself. A really great piece of advice that I have heard from many of my mentors is that we must ALWAYS keep promises to ourselves because if we can't trust ourselves, then we can’t trust anyone. And who should trust us, if we can’t trust ourselves? (What a whack in the face right? Ouch!)
Using the energy of the new year to bring about change you have been putting off is one of the best things about the holiday, but it can also bring about negative feelings and thoughts from the frustration of unmet expectations. Whether we have let ourselves down in the past, or have already failed at following through this year, the frustration with ourselves, as well as, the negative and uncomfortable feelings big changes can bring are enough to have us giving up after only a month, or even a week, of trying. If we think of these goals we set as promises to ourselves, and think about what that really means, then we tend to set goals that are more obtainable. When making our resolutions this year, let's remember we are human. Let's learn to keep ourselves accountable by putting in the effort both physically and mentally to reach our destination. Let’s make attainable goals, and not expect perfection. Let’s bring our very best self, but don't let failures bring about negativity. Mourn the loss, feel the feelings, and learn from our mistakes. & Always reach out for support when we need it. Let's use our resolutions and this new beginning to spur our motivation to obtain our goals, and build on what we have been working so hard to obtain already.
I pray you all have a wonderful and blessed 2020!
